How to focus on the foreground using a Cannon Power Shot A630?

Question by ciao.duckies: How to focus on the foreground using a Cannon Power Shot A630?
I took a picture of a chipmunk on the ledge of my window a little bit ago. However, I couldn’t get my camera to focus on the chipmunk in the foreground. I got a blurry chipmunk and a very detailed picture of my flowerbeds that need to be weeded. How do I get my camera to focus on what I really want a picture of?

  1. So did you have the animal at the center of your frame of view? Did you give the camera time to grab focus on the chipmunk – or perhaps the little guy didn’t give you time.

Often with fully automatic cameras if they can’t focus on what’s at center will focus on the next best thing in the frame. Also, speaking of can’t focus, if you’re too close to the subject the camera can’t focus because of the short distance and again will grab the next best thing.
